IMPORTANT NOTICE: EGU has cancelled the physical General Assembly in Vienna and will instead host EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online (#shareEGU20), a week-long series of online activities to help minimize the impact of COVID-19 on scientific research and collaboration. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.
This page summarizes some useful information for General Assembly attendees – don't forget:
- Information on COVID-19: please visit our information webpage about the coronavirus frequently.
- Help making the EGU General Assembly a green conference:
- Green EGU: please visit our Green EGU website for all information about our initiatives.
- Bring your own EGU lanyard: the name badges consist only of a lanyard and a paper badge, no plastic sleeve. Help reducing even this material usage by bringing your own EGU lanyard from a past conference. If you pick up one this year at the registration, please keep the lanyard for next year or return it at the EGU information in the entrance hall. Please dispose the paper badge in the paper waste to allow recycling.
- Bring your own water bottle: EGU provides water fountains in all poster halls. Please bring your own water bottle to refill as often as you like. Please note that the tap water in Vienna is of very high quality. EGU-branded multi-use water bottles can be acquired at the EGU booth in Hall X2.
- Bring your own coffee mug: the morning and afternoon coffee breaks serve complimentary coffee and tea on all levels inside the congress centre as well as in the poster halls. Please bring your own coffee mug to avoid using single-use paper cups. EGU-branded multi-use cups with a lid can be acquired at the EGU booth in Hall X2.
- Networking break: the networking break from 18:00–19:00 serves beer and non-alcoholic beverages in the exhibition areas (entrance hall and gallery) as well as in the poster halls.
- Accessibility & inclusiveness: please visit our website on accessibility & inclusiveness.
- Parents at the General Assembly: please visit our Parents at the GA website listing all services for families.
- Mobile app vs PWA: instead of continuing with the General Assembly mobile app for iPhones and Android smartphones we have provided since 2012, EGU2020 will offer a progressive web application (PWA). This is an offline version of the entire conference website downloaded to any device and run locally. As soon as you download the PWA, you will browse through the EGU2020 website locally and whenever you are online, the PWA will automatically update. However, if you are offline, you can still make use of the conference programme, personal programme, and information pages. The advantage of the PWA is that it works on all devices, so please feel free downloading the PWA also to your notebook in addition to your tablet or smartphone. We will keep you updated once the PWA is launched and ready for download.
- Personal programme: please make use of the option to generate your own personal programme which can be stored and is synchronized in your PWA.
- Division meetings: all EGU General Assembly 2020 attendees are invited to attend, particularly early career scientists. Please find the division meetings at: https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2020/sessionprogramme/FAM#DM
- Meet the Divisions and Meet EGU: for the first time, all Divisions meet once a week during the networking break close to their posters. Use this opportunity to meet with the officers and colleagues. In addition, EGU continues offering consultation hours with representatives from the Union, its committees, and journals. The latter takes place at the meet EGU spot near the EGU booth. Watch the schedule of all events at: https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2020/sessionprogramme/ECE#EGU
- OSPP judging: when browsing through the poster and PICO programme, abstracts taking part in the OSPP contest and lacking the minimum number of OSPP judges provide the opportunity for you to volunteer as judge in order to ensure an appropriate amount of evaluations. For sessions you plan to attend, please consider serving as judge, if applicable.
- Artists-in-residence: visit our artists-in-residence Stacy Phillips and Priyanka Das Rajkakati in Foyer D (Brown Level -2 - basement). If you are interested, the pieces created during the General Assembly can be acquired. Talk to the artist about a price, reserve your favourite piece, and contact the EGU Information on Friday 14:00–17:00 for payment and pickup.
- EGU Today: the daily newsletter highlighting scientific sessions, short courses, and other activities at the Assembly can be read at: https://www.egu.eu/egutoday/
- Social media and blog: stay up-to-date with General Assembly information by subscribing to the EGU blog and following the EGU on Twitter (conference hashtag: #EGU20) and Facebook.
- EGU's person of trust: if you experienced infringements against our rules of conduct, please contact EGU's person of trust at the special registration desk in Hall X5. You can also contact the EGU Information in the entrance hall (Yellow Level 0 – ground floor) and they will call the person of trust. It is also possible to report to conduct@egu.eu.
