EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online (#shareEGU20) aims to bring part of the activities of the EGU General Assembly 2020 online. We hope that authors and conveners will join us in sharing their research and discussing with colleagues. This page details participation opportunities for scientific sessions that include all disciplinary as well as inter- and transdisciplinary sessions of EGU2020.

What are the possibilities for authors?

  • All abstracts received a DOI and remain on www.egu2020.eu as accepted contributions under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License.
  • We invite authors to share their presentation materials. These materials can be anything that authors wish to highlight, one or more figures, a few slides, an animation, a map, a pdf, a poster, etc. The materials need to be in one file that is less than 50 MB in size to allow fast download and viewing.
  • The option for the upload of presentation materials opens on 1 April 2020 and remains until the end of May.
  • Please visit our presentation upload recipe for step-by-step instructions.
  • As for your abstract, any presentation materials are in principle distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License allowing anyone to share as long as the authors are cited. If this established open-access licence cannot be applied to your materials, please clearly indicate your copyright (e.g. © Authors. All rights reserved). In either case, authors grant Copernicus Meetings the right to hold the presentation materials online for viewing and download by individuals.
  • Authors can opt in to allow comments and feedback on their presentation materials. Commenting is enabled for users logged in with their Copernicus user ID and their names are disclosed. This feedback option is open from 1 April until the end of May.
  • We hope that authors and participants use this opportunity for constructive discussion of abstracts and linked presentation materials. Author comments are identified as AC while community comments are marked as CC.
  • It is possible to revise the presentation materials and the discussion threads follow the newest version.
  • Presentation materials and comments remain online.
  • Contributions to EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online all have the same format called displays. This means that the scheduled posters, orals, and PICOs are now displays.
  • During EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online, we open a text-based chat channel per scheduled session, where authors and attendees can actively discuss the abstracts and presentation materials. Please note that this does not involve live presentations or streaming. The start and end times are given in the online programme at each session and are according to Central European Summer Time (CEST).
  • Chats will not be recorded so that an open discussion is stimulated.
  • To learn more about the chat channels, please see our page on how to use the chats.
  • Scheduled chat times follow the original session time as much as possible, but we have merged some time blocks of sessions in order to enable a functional chat. Chat times for sessions can be found in the online programme.

What are the possibilities for conveners?

  • Your session was scheduled for the EGU General Assembly 2020 and is now part of EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online.
  • In the course of EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online all abstracts have the same format called displays. This means that the originally scheduled posters, orals, and PICOs are now displays.
  • The scheduled days and times (time blocks) of your session are kept but we merged some time blocks. If your session was scheduled for more than one day, we tried to consolidate to one day.
  • Starting with 1 April, we invite all authors to connect presentation materials with their abstract and opt in for allowing comments by the community. This will facilitate discussion and exchange between authors and colleagues without necessarily requiring an active role by conveners. But of course, all conveners are encouraged to take part in this discussion.
  • During EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online, we open a text-based chat channel per scheduled session, where authors and attendees can actively discuss the abstracts and presentation materials. Please note that this does not involve live presentations or streaming. The start and end times are given in the online programme at each session and are according to the Central European Summer Time (CEST).
  • Conveners and/or chairpersons are asked to moderate the chats: you can introduce the session, ensure that all displays get some attention, and ask questions to stimulate the discussion. Please visit our Top 10 tips for promoting good online engagement for conveners.
  • Chats will not be recorded so that an open discussion is stimulated.
  • To learn more about the chat channels, please see our page on how to use the chats.
  • We encourage conveners to get in touch with their authors (through your session mail tool) encourage them to upload presentation materials and inform how you aim to guide the chat.
  • Conveners are invited to upload session materials and/or a session summary to give further information on their session. The materials need to be in one file of less than 50 MB in a format that works across different platforms. For upload, please log into the tool session modification by using your Copernicus Office user ID at: https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2020/sessionmodification
  • Later in April we aim to inform in more detail about the functionalities of the chat and we encourage conveners to share this information with their authors.
  • EGU believes it has the responsibility to help ensure that scientific activities continue during the current circumstances. EGU would therefore like to encourage conveners to consider organizing special issues in one of EGU's thematic journals or in Advances in Geosciences, EGU's journal dedicated to publishing conference proceedings.
  • We hope that conveners will help us making EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online an exciting, useful, and active event for the geoscience community.
